Greg’s Workbench

German Sd.Kfz 7 half-track with towed 88mm Flak 36.

I’m having a great deal of fun modelling this fearsome beast. The metal and resin of this kit makes for some seriously hefty models, especially in regards to the impressively large Sd.Kfz 7 half-track nearly 4 1/2″ in length and weighing in at 5.4 oz. The kit included 5 crew members (6 including the operator modeled on the 88.), three holding shells, one with binoculars and one using what appears to be the Entfernungsmesser 36 rangefinder. This set also included the 88’s limbers, which will make a fantastic decorative piece for the battlefield.

This kit provides a good amount of flexibility in how you model it. For example, you can elevate and rotate the gun, and while I choose to have my 88 fully unlimbered and ready to pincushion some T-34’s, I think you could easily model it limbered if you really wanted to.

German Volkswagen Kübelwagen

The Volkswagen Kübelwagen is a slick little metal and resin model that I picked up from our local con to use as a staff car for my German HQ. It comes with the option of having a raised or folding canopy and a pintle mounted MG42. I personally choose to forgo the MG for a more dedicated transport look.

German Sd.Kfz 234/2 “Puma” Armoured Car

Since the first day I laid eyes on the this sweet little armored car, I have been in love with it. This fully plastic kit was a dream to assemble. Clear assembly instructions, good materials and with great attention to detail. The puma is an awesome little vehicle, The speed and recce capabilities of many other light vehicles, but with a solid advantage in its armament, The KwK 30 50mm anti-tank gun and a co-axial MMG.

German Heer HQ (Winter)

I’ve been wanting to pick up a winter command for my Germans for awhile now. This set includes 4 figures; An infantryman equipped with a MP40 submachine gun, a prone observer with binoculars and no visible weapon, a medic assisting a wounded soldier, and lastly a commanding officer sporting a long, fur-lined winter coat and MP40.

Now, I’ll likely be laying a rifle down on the ground beside the observer, and for my commanding officer, I might try swapping out that MP40 with an StG 44 assault rifle just to make him feel a little more unique.

German Heer MG42 Team (Winter)

It will require tremendous volume of fire to suppress the Soviet menace. Luckily, I have started to collect MG42 teams with such and agenda. This set some with an exceedingly cool spotter with binoculars and StG 44 assault rifle. The base that came with this set was badly warped so I fabricated a new one with a bit of EPVC.
